If you are looking for a low-cost alternative to our R85/R810 8-Relay Controller, the R45/R410 may be exactly what you are looking for.  This is a no-frills design offering simple RS-232 control of 4 Omron relays.

Features include no-click startup, 4 LED status lights, and an optoisolated RS-232 data input.  Relays can be controlled at a jumper-selectable data rate of 1200 or 9600 baud.  Jumper selectable RS-232 levels ensure compatibility with ANY computer or microcontroller capable of delivering RS-232 data.

Even a no-frills design deserves a high-quality driver stage, and that's exactly what we put on the R45/R410 controllers.  Fast-reacting flyback diodes help shunt dangerous voltages away from the driver circuit.  We use a quad transistor network to drive the relays, which is complete overkill by most engineering standards.

To control the R45/R410,  simply connect a data and ground wire between the R45/R410 and computer or microcontroller. Provide +12 Volts DC to the board, and send ASCII character codes 0 to 15.  ASCII character code 0 turns all relays off, code 15 turns all relays on.  Every number in between actuates the relays in the equivalent binary pattern.

The R45 includes 4 unsealed OMRON relays, perfect for general purpose relay control.  The R410 uses hermetically sealed relays for longer contact life and higher switching currents.  Use the R410 for outdoor installations.
