The
GDSP was our first display controller capable of supporting
text and graphics from an RS-232 interface.
The GDSP controller board
connects directly to the back of any Optrex DMF5005 series
display providing a simplified command set to an otherwise
complicated display.
The GDSP was designed to
provide computers or microcontrollers with a simplified method
of communicating graphical or text data to multiple users in
space-limited applications. It is currently in use in
file servers, casinos, and various other computer-based
systems needing a display solution smaller than a monitor
could provide.
Unlike many of our new display
products, the GDSP is not capable of storing images, and
relies on the resources of a computer or microcontroller to
provide image data in real time.
Up to 5 images per second may
be uploaded to the display in real-time at 115.2K baud.
Other support baud rates include 9600, 19.2K, and 38.4K.
Up to 8 displays can be connected to a
single serial port for independent control of each display.
The display is equipped with a
character generator capable of displaying 32x8 text in
graphics/text mode or 40x8 text in text-only mode.
The GDSP supports a graphics
and text layer. Each layer may be manipulated independently.
Other features include a software controlled backlight,
on-board contrast adjust, and a high-speed "Dump"
mode for 100% efficient transfer of image data directly to the
display screen.
