The F8x series controllers are our first DC solid state HEXFET controllers, offering all the features of the R8xPRO series relay controllers. HEXFETs are silent, low-cost, and have a reputation for a very long service life. The F8x series controllers is designed to simply connect an external, high-power DC load to a common ground under computer control.

The F8x has 2 terminal connections for each SPST normally open solid-state relay. The F8x series can only be used with DC loads. The RS-232 interface for this controller is optically isolated, providing up to 2500 volts of protection between our controller and your PC.

The F8x offers the same command set as the R8xPRO series relay controllers, including the sane on-board memory. Emulation mode is not supported by the F8x series controllers.

The F8x series include 8 on-board status LEDs and two additional LEDs driven entirely by the firmware, indicate when a valid command is in process and when the device is ready for commands.

Our new and improved command set allows you to set the status of all HEXFETs at once or one HEXFET at a time. In addition, you can request the status of individual HEXFETs or all HEXFETs at once.

Memory features allow you to store the default on/off status of all HEXFETs when power is first applied to the board. In addition, the current HEXFET activation pattern can be stored and recalled into 16 different memory banks, allowing you to define "macros" that prevent some HEXFETs from activating at the same time.

A timer function was added to activate one or more HEXFETs for controlled periods of time.

Connection:

Connecting an external load, such as a DC motor to the F8x is very easy. A typical DC motor has two leads, positive and negative. Simply connect the V+ of the motor to the V+ of your power supply, such as a 12V car battery. Connect the Ground Lead of your car battery to the Ground Connection on the F8x. Connect the Load Lead on the F8x to the Ground Connection of your motor. Next, connect the QS12 quick start kit (which includes a serial cable and power supply for powering the logic on the F8x). You are now ready to control the on off status of your motor under computer control.

Product Features:

The F8x is E3C compliant, allowing up to 256 NCD devices to share a single serial port. The PWM8x is optically isolated from the control computer, preventing damaging voltage spikes. The F8x operates at 1200, 2400, 9600, or 19.2K baud and is capable of controlling each channel individually or all eight channels simultaneously.

Choosing a Controller:

The F81 is perfectly suited for automotive lighting applications (except headlights), such as custom turn signals and interior lighting. The PWM83 is suitable for larger lights and small DC motors, solenoids, and valves. The PWM85 is suitable for larger DC motors found in most robotic control applications, large solenoids, valves, and many other DC loads. Please see the product manual for maximum electrical ratings.
