Now We'll get into more of the details of the -NET Modules

Web Browser Based Communications

Browser based Communications are easy and effective and can be used to control or test your board from anywhere in the world without the need for custom programming.

You can Demo This Interface Now at http://www.signalswitch.com:8080/ and control a Live Board here in our office.

There are two different types of Browser Based Communications: LAN Access and Remote Internet Access via SignalSwitch.

LAN Access

LAN is short for Local Area Network. For most people your LAN is any device that is connected to your router. This means to access the device users will need to be connected to your local network.

First you will need to connect an Ethernet Cable that is hooked into your network to your device and THEN connect the power.

To connect to this device via LAN simply open the NCD Configuration Utility and find the IP Address  in the menu that should pop up automatically (if you have multiple devices you'll need to match the MAC Addresses printed on the top of the Ethernet Modules to the IP Address to access that device).

Once you have the IP Address put it into the URL/Address Bar at the top of your browser (Firefox and Internet Explorer are the suggested browsers) and hit enter.

You will be prompted for a password. The default password is "1234" without the quotes. We suggest changing this default password from the Configure section of your -NET Controller's Server.

That's it, you should now be able to control your relays, monitor your A/D Inputs. Here's a breakdown of what each page does:

  • Relays - Controls your Relays
  • A/D - Monitors your A/D Inputs
  • Console - Allows you to send any NCD Supported command to the device
  • Network - View the MAC and IP Address of your Device
  • Configure - Advanced Options
    • Check Boxes at the top
      • NCD Network Component - Allows or Disallows direct TCP/IP Communications through port 2101
      • SignalSwitch.com - Allows or Disallows communications with SignalSwitch.com (needed for Remote Internet Access)
      • Web Page - Allows or Disallows control of the Relays via browser
    • Change Relay Labels
    • Change A/D Labels
    • Change Password
    • Set Up Fixed IP Address (Recommended that you reserve this IP Address through your Router)
    • Change the port Number that SignalSwitch.com will communicate to this device through (for advanced users)
  • Logout - Logs Out of the device
  • NCD Homepage - Redirects you to NCDs homepage for support

Remote Internet Access

Remote Internet Access allows you to control your Relays from anywhere in the world. It is a little more complicated than LAN Access but not too much so.

First you will need to connect an Ethernet Cable that is hooked into your network or to the internet directly to your device and THEN connect the power.

Once that is done, open the NCD Configuration Utility and find the IP Address (if you have multiple devices you'll need to match the MAC Addresses printed on the top of the Ethernet Modules to the IP Address to access that device).

Go to the Configure section in the Left Navigation. From there make sure that SignalSwitch.com option is checked at the top.

Now if your ZETH-NET module is connected through a router you will need to set up your router for port forwarding to the ZETH-NET's IP Address. Port Forwarding will be different for each router so you may have to contact your router manufacturer for instructions.

Port 80 is the default port for http protocols and should only be changed if there is a reason. If you do change this setting make sure that you change it on the Device as well as the port forwarding settings on the router.

We also recommend reserving the IP Address of your device on your router and using the current IP Address of the Device as its Fixed IP Address to prevent DHCP from changing your IP Address or assigning multiple devices the same IP Address.

Once that is done, go to link.signalswitch.com and enter the MAC Address (printed on the top of the ZETH-NET Module).

You should now have access to the device as if you were on the same LAN Network as it.

Administrative Functions

If you go to the IP Address of the module and add /Admin on the end so the url would look like http://ipaddress/Admin, you will have access to the Administrative functions of your board.

If you get a prompt to "Please switch to Configuration mode to run this page", then you will need to move the jumper on the physical board to the PRG position to have access. This is a security feature, we recommend moving the jumper when finished in the Administrative Interface.

The Administrative Interface allows you to do a few troubleshooting and configuration actions including:

  • Reset Device
  • Reset User Password
  • Change the number of Relays the Web Interface will list
  • Change the type of board it will Interface with (Reactor, Taralist, etc.)
